The port of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude is the navigable endpoint of the Este, a tributary of the Elbe. Mills and factories once thrived there. The port is the heart of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude. Until the 19th century, it provided an important connection for long-distance traffic via the Lower Elbe. Industry was established in Buxtehude because of the port. The railway, which began operating in 1881, and later the road connection, displaced shipping traffic in Buxtehude. Around 1980, part of the port was built over with the harbor bridge. Nevertheless, historical buildings have been preserved, such as the customs office built in 1870 at Moortorstraße 2, which is very beautiful to look at 👍🏼. The waters of the Este once powered the Flethmühle (Fleth Mill) in the city center of Buxtehude. Below that point, the Fleth was tide-dependent and navigable for barges of up to 100 tons until 1972.

The port was once the heart of Buxtehude. The Hanseatic city was the first city to be built around a central harbor basin. Cargo ships anchored in the harbor basin in front of the city. They were then loaded and unloaded in Fleth, the inner-city port canal. Until the 19th century, the port provided an important connection across the Lower Elbe for long-distance traffic

Allter Hansehafen Buxtehude (joining the Hanseatic League in 1363) not only shines with barge trips and tide-dependent piers for passenger ships. It is the navigable end point of the Elbe tributary Este. Mills and factories settled on it.

In the Rosengarten state forest, 1750 m west of the forestry office, on a hill above a steep ridge of terrain stands the Karlstein, a mighty, medium-coarse reddish-gray granite (>1.9 x 2.5 x 2.2 m), which has been astonishing for centuries excited. It was less the size of the stone than the deep grooves and the “imprints” of horseshoes that aroused interest early on. Stones with horseshoe symbols can be found in various places. The next stone was in Regesbostel, Harburg district. Worth remembering are the Rosstrappe in the Harz and the Bickelstein near Wittingen. There is currently no objective explanation for these signs. A few meters away from the Karlstein there is a second stone made of the same material, a chip off the Karlstein. https://www.hamburg.de/geotope/3861972/karlstein/
