The ruins of Rechenberg Castle, also known as Schanze, are located on a rock face directly on the road in Rechenberg-Bienenmühle. The former Rechenberg Castle burned down in 1586 and was listed as a historical monument in 1969. The remains of the castle, which was about 70 by 150 meters in size, are now the restaurant, which was the former gatehouse, and the town hall, which was the former manor house, at the foot of the mountain.

It's fascinating, this castle on a hillside, even if it's in dire need of renovation! It is open once a year, in this 2023 it was September 30th - October 1st, it was not possible to find out when it would be next year.

The Jezeří Castle is one of the most important symbols of the Ore Mountains. The originally medieval castle, the first mention of which dates back to 1363, was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau in 1549, which was acquired by the Lobkowicz family. The castle experienced two fires, after which it was rebuilt in its current form. The end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century marked the peak of the building and cultural history of the castle. From 1820 the palace theater was also open. Many important visitors came here, for example J. W. von Goethe. During World War II the castle was administered by the Nazis. Other events were no longer particularly favorable for the castle. After the war, the castle became state property. It was occupied by the army for some time, which is a major contributor to its current poor condition. You can only get into the castle for paid tours... it's best to inform yourself beforehand

Interesting guided tour via video (it takes a little getting used to at first, but spoken lovingly by the owner), where beer production is explained at 6 or 7 stations. In the summer of 2022, the tour took place every 30 minutes. Beer delicious👍🏻

The ruins in their current form owe the castle to the destruction by the House of Wettin in the 15th century, the construction of Frauenstein Castle next door and the associated disuse. A town fire in the 18th century severely damaged both the castle and the palace. Since the castle was no longer used, it was not rebuilt. However, the "Dicker Merten" residential tower from the 13th century and the 1.50 m thick ring wall have been preserved to this day. Other preserved rooms are the cellar, kitchen, castle chapel, prison, two rooms and several vaults. A support association is trying to preserve the castle.

The castle is decaying and is unfortunately also closed at the moment (spring 2022) ... An English-style park (unfortunately also decaying) stretches around the castle. - The Lobkowitz family (the lords of the castle): one of the oldest and richest Bohemian noble families (also in Dux). In the middle of the 18th century, one of the lords of Lobkowicz planned to build a chapel for a relic, the Holy Thorn (from Christ's crown of thorns), which was kept in the castle chapel. About 500m below the castle - don't miss it!

In the Saxon Brewery Museum, which is unique in Saxony, the 450-year history of the brewery and the entire process of traditional beer production and the production of wooden beer barrels is shown. The fabulously beautiful Purschenstein Castle (now a hotel) was built around 1200 by the lords of Hrabischitz / Riesenburg (from Boresch I / Borso), here to protect the Bohemian Salt Road.

Jezeri Castle (Eisenberg Castle) was built from 1363 to 1365. Thereafter, several nobles owned the castle, including the Smolik von Slawitz family. From 1450 onwards, Kunz von Kauffungen also owned the castle. He became known when he robbed the Saxon princes Albert and Ernst (later founders of Thuringia and Saxony) from Altenburg Castle, because he felt betrayed by the Saxon margrave. After a charcoal burner had betrayed him, he was executed in Freiberg. In 1459 the castle was conquered by the Bohemian King and fell back to the Smolik. Since he remained childless, the castle fell to his brother-in-law. He had the castle rebuilt into a renaissance castle in 1549. Because of participating in the uprising of the nobility, he was expropriated and taken over by Wilhelm Lobkowicz in 1623, who had the palace converted into a baroque palace. The castle was destroyed by the Thirty Years War. The descendants of the Lobkowicz rebuilt it. In 1713 the castle burned down again, was rebuilt and used as a hunting lodge. During the Second World War, officers of the Allied army were held captive in the castle. After World War II until 1948 it came back into the possession of the Lobkowicz family. In 1948 they were expropriated. From 1950 it served as accommodation for the Czechoslovak army. It has been a listed building since 1958. In 1987 the lock was to give way to brown coal. Thanks to a citizens' initiative, the castle was saved and has been open to the public again since 1996. Source Wikipedia
