At 66.4 hectares, it is the largest moorland area in the Rhön region and is easily accessible to visitors via a boardwalk and an observation tower. The nature trail provides a wealth of information about the geographical features, the flora and fauna, the area's geological history, and its former uses. Large parts of the 66.4-hectare protected area are wooded. However, the moorland character becomes truly apparent here at the lakes.
