The Fehmarnsund Bridge is a combined road and rail bridge connecting the island of Fehmarn in the Baltic Sea with the mainland near Großenbrode. The Fehmarnsund Bridge, opened in 1963 and the Puttgarden ferry port on Fehmarn, built at the same time, significantly reduced the average travel time on the so-called Vogelfluglinie (bird flight line) from Hamburg to Copenhagen. The Fehmarnsund Tunnel is intended to connect the island of Fehmarn with the Schleswig-Holstein mainland and to pass under the Fehmarnsund as an immersed tunnel. This project is very controversial but will be implemented soon as part of the construction of the Fehmarnbelt crossing to Lolland (the EU's highest priority)....

The 963-meter-long combined road and rail bridge crosses the 1300-meter-wide Fehmarnsund and is 23 meters high above mean water level. For shipping, it offers a passage of 240 meters wide and a clearance height of 23m above sea level. The steel structure is 21 meters wide, of which 6 meters were used by Deutsche Bahn. The span of the arch is 248 meters, and its highest point is 45 meters above the roadway. The arch is approximately 268.5 m long.

Very nice view of the Fehmarnsund Bridge. The bridge is currently not accessible by bike until mid-May 2025 due to construction work, as the bike path is closed. However, there is a shuttle service.
