The Naval Memorial in Laboe is a memorial to sailors of all nations who remained at sea and a monument to peaceful seafaring on the open seas. The 72-meter-high tower of the memorial is particularly striking and visible from afar and is considered a landmark of the Kiel Fjord.

U995 is a German submarine of the former Kriegsmarine, type VII C/41, which was used in World War II. It was commissioned in September 1943 and completed nine missions. After the end of the war, it became the property of the Norwegian Navy as the test and training boat Kaura. It was returned to Germany in 1965 and officially handed over on October 2, 1971. Since March 13, 1972, the submarine has been a museum ship at the foot of the naval memorial in Laboe. The German Marine Association operates the U 995 Technical Museum, which states that it is visited by around 350,000 people every year.[1]

You can relax on the beach. Or even go swimming. Very quiet. A beautiful view of the Kiel Fjord

A great section of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route. Equally easy to ride in both directions. Combined cycle and footpath where mutual consideration is essential. If you feel like it, you can go to Laboe and then down to Kiel. Or you can go around the Kiel Fjord (day trip) and take the public transport ferry back to Laboe in Friedrichsdorf. Along the way, numerous restaurants with their delicacies invite you to take a break. The view of the beach, sea and ships is on top 👍

Very beautiful and well-kept memorial and museum. A must if you are near Kiel. History is what it is, we cannot change it. We should just learn from it. This place is a good place to start learning

A MUST on a tour to and in Laboe. Impressive and imposing building. After a visit, the history of this memorial is etched in your memory and you won't forget it in a hurry! If you take other tours in the bay, you can see it from a long distance. Landmark, memorial and reminder at the same time. Really worth it!

The beach and dyke section between Stein and Marina Wentdorf is fantastically beautiful 💙... But unfortunately the magical atmosphere is spoiled by a construction site right next to the kiosk in Marina Wentdorf. The kiosk is closed there and can be found behind the dyke following a sign 😉...
