At the beginning of the Marschbahndamm near Tatenberg there is now a new, beautiful bike station with an overview map and tools and everything you need to rest. The bad thing is that this place is right next to the new major construction site over the bridge at the Tatenberg lock. Coming from Hamburg you have to plan for time and inconvenience - the construction site will probably last until 2027. But the 23 km of Marschbahndamm to Altengamme are pure relaxation.

A very nice bike path! Here you can cycle from Hamburg to Neuengamme without being disturbed by vehicle traffic. Since the route runs on a former railway embankment (the Marschbahndamm), it is mainly straight ahead, with a few shallow curves. The path is partly framed on both sides by trees and bushes, and partly you have a clear view of the meadows, fields, ditches and boulders in the area. I would always prefer the cycle path on the Marschbahndamm to the cycle path on the Elbe, which mostly runs right next to Elbuferstraße and is sometimes used as a "parking space" by cars.

Anyone who wants to get into Hamburg from the south. I think this way works perfectly.

The Kirchwerder meadows are located in the middle of the Vier- and Marschlande, a cultural landscape that is one of the oldest in northern Germany. Hamburg's largest nature reserve extends between Fünfhausen and Kirchwerder, covering 860 hectares. The ditches are the ecological gem of the protected meadows. Many rare animal and plant species can be found in them and on their edges. The areas are mainly used extensively for agriculture, in order to ensure breeding and feeding space for meadow birds such as lapwings and snipes, and to ensure the presence of rare plants. Among other things, the only breeding area for black terns in Hamburg is located here.
