10월 28, 2024, Iberger Albertturm Observation Tower (HWN 130)

From the Iberger Albert Tower you have a wonderful panoramic view all the way to the Brocken. As of 2024, admission costs 1€. The Iberger Albert Tower is a stamping point for the HWN, the Wildemanner hiking pin and the Baudensteig. So: don't forget your stamp booklets!😉 The restaurant will be remodeled as of 2024 - but there will be a large self-service range so that no one has to starve here. Not far from the tower there is also a great view of the nearby quarry!

A very striking point on the outskirts of Bad Grund, which Goethe already described. The whole area around the Hübichenstein and Iberg was a coral reef in primeval times and has eroded over millions of years. You can climb up the steps on one of the rocks and look at the other rocks from there. The rock bears the name of the dwarf king Hübich. You can find more about the legend at: https://www.harzlife.de/sagen/koenig-huebich-huebichenstein.html

King Hübich's magic castle "Yes, yes, those were the days when King Hübich and all his people here on the mountain yoke shot nimbly day and night with feather arrows if someone dared to climb his magic castle." On the top of the Violenberg rises a solidified body of rock, which pushed itself out of the fiery body of the earth millions of years ago. This skyward striving rock face, a gigantic creation of nature, is the Hübichenstein. Formed by the fist of nature, this rock formation is shrouded in endless legends. Mrs. Saga reports that under the steep cliffs, in the silence of the labyrinths, there was the miraculous castle of the dwarf king Hübich. Hübich, the Rübezahl of the Upper Harz, was a benevolent donor who helped the needy landlords wherever he could. That's why the people called him Giebich or Hübich. Nature had endowed his magic castle under the Hübichenstein with extravagant splendor and colourfulness in mysterious, centuries-long work. Rich stalactite formations with an inexpressible atmospheric charm shone here in the large halls in wondrous colors and tones. The drops of water saturated with lime and other substances had collected on the ceiling and left formations as they evaporated, which grew larger and larger with the billions of evaporated drops. These stalactites hung now like gigantic icicles, now like strange fine lace weaves. In a similar way to the ceiling formations, the stalagmites grew up from the ground, forming a rich world of the strangest forms in thousands of years of conspicuous drops. Often the hanging stalactites had united with the rising stalagmites and formed costly fabrics and railings with decorations and flourishes of magnificent richness of form. Due to the different composition of their components, the countless drops of water created an indescribable richness of colour. While the diadochite colored the stalactite in shades from the most dazzling white to the most beautiful reddish-brown, the orthodiadochite created an almost cherry-red color. Arsenic iron ocher mixed a wonderful golden yellow, and in between blazed bright, sky-blue stalactite formations that had received their coloring from the mineral melanterite. In these precious halls and halls, lit only by the self-light of the sparkling crystals, the little earth spirits flocked to their dwarf king, enthroned on a chair of pure gold under a canopy formed by dazzling stalactites. Here they once dined with their esteemed King Hübich at the stone tables from bowls of rare ores with cutlery of precious metal and drank from crystal goblets. They brought their treasures together in the great king's hall and rejoiced in the glittering splendor of the gold and precious stones. With their misshapen forms, they tripped through the caves and passages and jealously guarded their secrets. If a person approached, they silently disappeared into their underworld.
