Danger always floats along Metelen/Heek-Nien... Summer temperatures like those of the past few days and the relatively good water quality of the three large lakes in the municipality attract many water lovers to swim. In doing so, they ignore bans - because, as Andreas Joost from the municipality emphasizes, none of the lakes are officially designated as bathing waters. The accident last weekend at Strönfeldsee (Heeker See) showed how dangerous swimming in an unsupervised place and especially on quarry lakes with their cliff edges and sometimes unpredictable currents can be.

The peat area is beautiful in all seasons.

Interesting moor area that alternates with wide heath areas. However, the area is currently being cleared of unwanted plant growth and is therefore unfortunately closed on some paths directly through the moor. The boardwalks are therefore not accessible.
