If you take the time to do some research before visiting, you'll quickly discover that various organizations offer guided tours that also include a tour of the church's interior: 1. On selected Sundays, the parish community offers a guided tour at 2:00 p.m. without prior registration. 2. The Aichach City Museum offers tours at various times. We were extremely fortunate to be treated to a highly interesting and entertaining presentation of the history of the former castle and the church, which also included a tour of the church, on a Friday at 12:00 p.m. from a dedicated and knowledgeable guide.

The castle church of Mary of Victory is located in the Oberwittelsbach district of Aichach in the Aichach-Friedberg district of Bavaria. It stands on the site of the former Wittelsbach family castle, Wittelsbach Castle, and is an important historical building in the region. History: The origins of the church are closely linked to the history of the Wittelsbach family. After the destruction of Wittelsbach Castle in 1209, the current church was built in its place around 1420. The Gothic brick building was altered and refurbished in the 17th and 19th centuries. The church served as a place of pilgrimage for a long time and is dedicated to the patron saint of Mary of Victory, which is celebrated on October 7th. Architecture and furnishings: The church is characterized by its Gothic architecture, which has received Baroque elements over the centuries. Inside, it is clearly divided into two parts: the sacred space of the altars is dedicated to the life of Mary, while the nave focuses on the suffering of Christ. Particularly noteworthy is the image of grace in the high altar, a Madonna with the baby Jesus surrounded by angels playing music. Current condition and use: The castle church is a listed building and is registered in the Bavarian monument list. For security reasons, public access is only possible on special occasions and after church services and weddings. However, the surrounding castle grounds are freely accessible at all times and offer an insight into the historical significance of the place. A visit to the castle church of Maria vom Siege not only offers an insight into the religious history of the region, but also into the beginnings of the House of Wittelsbach and the development of the Wittelsbach region.

The historic square is somewhat hidden. We were pleased about the connection to Bayreuth
