The castle was built at the end of the 17th century on the same site where several previous buildings had stood. It is privately owned and not open to the public.

The ancestral seat of the Wittelsbach family used to stand where this Gothic brick church, which is atypical for the region, stands today. This place is historically very important for the region, which is also evidenced by the high national monument, the neo-Gothic column in front of the church. You can only enter the church during church services or for weddings. Around the church you will still find some remains of the former castle.
