A tour along the Weser reflects the diverse landscape of Lower Saxony. First it flows through the mountainous south, in places forcing itself between the towering rocks. There on the Oberweser, as the section up to Minden is called, the tourist importance of the river predominates today. Barges are rare. In summer, passenger ships shuttle between the tranquil towns, canoeists and rowers glide down the Weser - supported by the current. Small ferries serve to supplement the few bridges in this section. Cyclists can also use them to move from bank to bank on the popular Weser cycle path.
