Before this special PEACE CROSS, I would like to offer the viewer, as a brief reflection, the very first words that the newly elected Pope Leo XIV addressed to the faithful from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica – even before he bestowed the traditional blessing "urbi et orbi" (to the city and the world): "Peace be with you all! Dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the Good Shepherd... I, too, wish that this greeting of peace may enter your hearts, reach your families, all people, wherever they may be, all nations, the whole earth. Peace be with you! This is the peace of the risen Christ, an unarmed and disarming peace, humble and steadfast. It comes from God, the God who loves us all unconditionally."

The patronage "Mary (or Assumption)" of this church refers to one of the many commemorative days or feast days in honor of Mary, the Mother of God. It goes back to the feast of their physical acceptance into heaven, which the Church celebrates annually on August 15th. In many rural areas it is common for the people to collect herbal bundles (called "Kruggweusch" in the Rhenish dialect) on this day and bless them in the festival service.
