The elaborately restored moated castle, with its moat, bridge, and idyllic courtyard, enchants visitors and transports them to another world. Although the castle is privately owned, a detour here is definitely worth it, as the large gate was open and the courtyard was also freely accessible.

Heiligenkreuz-Gutenbrunn Castle is a baroque building that was built between 1733 and 1760 and originally served as a training center for secular priests. Today it is privately owned, while the associated church "Parish and Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary" belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. The castle complex blends harmoniously into the surrounding hilly landscape and offers beautiful views over the Tullnerfeld. The Castle Museum - Baroque Museum Heiligenkreuz-Gutenbrunn Castle, offers an impressive collection of works of art and artifacts from the Baroque period. The castle now houses this museum, which gives visitors the opportunity to delve deeply into the art and culture of the Baroque era.

Heiligenkreuz Castle Story: The creation goes back to the discovery of the statue of the Virgin Mary, which can be seen on the high altar of the pilgrimage church. The then lord of the castle, Jakob Freiherr von Tepsern, had a chapel built for this figure in 1733, which he had Paul Troger magnificently frescoed with a depiction of “Maria Himmelfahrt”. The influx of pilgrims that then began caused the lord of the castle to move his residence from Gutenbrunn to the mountain. He appointed Johann Ohmeyer, a student of Hildebrandt, as master builder. He designed the elongated castle wing including 2 towers on the north side. After Tepsern's death, the rule of Gutenbrunn passed to the auxiliary bishop Franz Anton Marxer. He was Maria Theresa's confessor and a great benefactor of orphaned children. Among other things, he built the orphanage for girls on Rennweg in Vienna. Franz Anton Maulbertsch was a very artistic and building-loving person and, what may sound astonishing today, he played the lottery and once won 35,000 and again 60,000 gold guilders. With the help of this money he set out to develop Heiligenkreuz into what it is today. He brought well-known artists to Heiligenkreuz, such as Franz von Hohenberg-Hetzendorf, who designed the high altar, and Franz Anton Maulbertsch, the painter of the pilgrimage church. The Moosbrugger brothers stuccoed the staircase in the castle. Franz Anton Marxer completed the building into a square in 1760. An alumnus was built on the west side, which lasted until 1806. When he finished construction, he donated the manor to the Diocese of Passau as a summer residence. In 1785, Emperor Joseph, Maria Theresa's son, created the diocese of St. Pölten and at the same time serfdom was abolished with the robot replacement protocol for the manorial rule. The diocese was not interested in ruling due to the establishment of the former Augustinian monastery in St. Pölten without serfdom, so a public auction took place. In 20 years, 13 different owners were recorded, the last owner was Baron Reichenbach, a well-known natural scientist and technician, who lost his fortune in various experiments, so the property was bought by the Figdor family in 1858 and has remained in their possession to this day.

Neulengbach Castle Neulengbach Castle was a hilltop castle on a free-standing mountain cone around 80 m high. It was converted into a palace in the 16th and 17th centuries. History: Neulengbach Castle was founded together with the market by the High Barons of Lengenbach around 1189. The castle became the center of the local rule of the Lengenbachers. After the Lengenbachers died out in 1236, it came into the possession of the Babenbergs. In the late Middle Ages, Neulengbach Castle was the seat of the princely caretakers and was often mortgaged. In 1565, Rudolf Khuen von Belasy received the rule of Neulengbach. Under the Barons of Khuen, the castle was expanded or extended into an unadorned late Renaissance palace in the third third of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. They owned 20 castles and their coat of arms featured the colors blue and yellow, which are now the colors of Lower Austria. Generously expanded into a residential palace under Count Khuen at the beginning of the 17th century, the castle-palace complex is now a three-story square building with a double defensive ring with 8 round towers, which was never taken by enemies. The castle is now privately owned. Tex / Source: Neulengbach city map

The Totzenbacher, a knightly family that named itself after its residence in Totzenbach, has been documented since 1147. From 1822/1823 Totzenbach Castle belonged to the princely family of Liechtenstein zu Neulengbach, who, however, had hardly any use for the complex. In 1971, the then municipality of Totzenbach acquired the dilapidated castle from the then owner. Its condition was so desolate that the idea of laying it down completely was considered. In 1974, however, a new lord of the castle was found in the antiques dealer Josef Figl, who had the dilapidated complex rebuilt by 1979. In 2002, the Ruschitzka family acquired Totzenbach Castle, but sold it to the Berger family a year later. This is still the owner today. She uses it as her residence and rents out some of the rooms for private events. The moated castle, which fell into ruin in the 1970s, was rebuilt in 1974.

Privately owned and therefore can only be viewed from the outside. History: The Totzenbach family, a knightly family that named itself after its residence in Totzenbach, has been documented since 1147. In 1971, the then municipality of Totzenbach acquired the ruined castle from the then owner. Its condition was so desolate that the idea of completely demolishing it was considered. In 1974, however, a new lord of the castle was found in the form of antique dealer Josef Figl, who had the dilapidated complex rebuilt by 1979. The work carried out included building up the collapsed ring wall, rebuilding the almost completely disappeared gate building, dredging the filled-in or silted-up moat and castle pond, and rebuilding the round corner tower, which only remained as a stump. During the construction work, the foundations of the medieval castle were also found in the castle courtyard. In 2002, the Ruschitzka family purchased Totzenbach Castle, but sold it a year later to the Berger family, who still own it today. They use it as a residence and rent out some of the rooms for private events.

Privately owned. Unfortunately it can only be viewed from the outside at the moment. Neulengbach Castle was a hilltop castle on a free-standing, around 80 m high mountain cone above the Lower Austrian town of Neulengbach, which was converted into a palace in the 16th and 17th centuries. The palace complex is a three-storey polygonal building with a double defense ring and eight round towers, a porch with a magnificent Renaissance portal and a courtyard with Tuscan double columns and a stone fountain basin. Neulengbach Castle was founded together with the market by the Freie von Lengenbach around 1189. The castle became the center of the local rule of the Lengenbach family. After the Lengenbachers died out in 1236, it came into the possession of the Babenbergs. In the late Middle Ages, Neulengbach Castle was the seat of princely caretakers and was often mortgaged. In 1565 Rudolf Khuen von Belasy received the rule of Neulengbach. In the 3rd third of the 16th century and in the 1st half of the 17th century, the barons of Khuen expanded the castle into an unadorned late Renaissance castle. In January 1912 a fire raged in the palace. The entire interior was destroyed. In 1920 the municipality of Vienna acquired the castle and used it as a children's home. In 1952 the Neulengbach Castle Association followed as the owner and in 1962 Martin Wakonig, a businessman from Graz.
