From the Danube Cycle Path, an impressive view opens up of the Linz Industrial Park – one of Austria's most important industrial areas and a key economic driver for the city of Linz. Numerous companies, primarily from the chemical and plastics industries, are located here, covering an area of approximately one square kilometer. Thanks to its excellent transport connections – with direct access to the motorway and rail network as well as the Danube tank port – the chemical park plays a crucial role in the country's industrial infrastructure. Despite its industrial backdrop, Linz boasts a lovingly preserved old town, modern cultural offerings, and superb cycle paths along the Danube. The column was erected in 1713 out of gratitude as a trigger for defense against the plague epidemics of 1679 and 1713, the dangers of war in 1683, 1703/1704 and a major fire in 1712.

Initially very industrial, but things get better in Linz itself ;-)
