About 300 meters from the Spangenberg castle ruins there is a spring, the castle fountain. In times of peace it was used to supply water to the castle using hollowed-out tree trunks. The fountain does not have an external fountain trough surrounded by stones. From the outside you can see a facade made of carved sandstone. The actual well chamber was previously closed by a door. The gable stone bears the year 1579.
