You don't have to drive to the island. As a pedestrian, take the ferry. It's also cheaper than driving. Then take the bus to Trollanes or a town before and hike to the lighthouse. The bus also takes all hikers back to the ferry.

The eponymous village is idyllically situated in a westward-facing valley on the island's west coast. It is known for its charming whitewashed houses, colorful roofs, and striking church dating from 1867. From the village, there are beautiful views of the neighboring island of Kalsoy. Kunoy is a place of tranquility and natural beauty that particularly touched us. Improved transport links via causeways and tunnels have made the island more accessible without losing its original charm.

First, we visit the Múlafossur waterfall, which plunges over 20 meters into the sea over a vertical cliff. Here, we also see four puffins 😃.

The lagoon was once a natural harbor. Today, it is silted up. It was created by a tsunami in the North Atlantic, which dumped the sand. A stream also flows into the lagoon. At low tide, you can walk further to the coast.

Pollurin Tidal Lagoon. Pollurin is an impressive natural phenomenon. At high tide, the lagoon is navigable by small boats, while at low tide it becomes a large sandy beach extending far out to sea. This tidal change is a special feature of the area.

Gjógv is a picturesque and remote village known for its tranquil beauty and unique natural features. First documented in 1584, Gjógv likely existed much earlier. For a long time, it relied on fishing and the sale of dried and salted fish. Although its population has declined significantly in recent decades (as of January 2025, there were 19 permanent residents), the village retains its historic charm and offers glimpses into a bygone way of life. The village's name, "Gjógv," means "ravine" or "gorge" in Faroese, referring to a 200-meter-long, seawater-filled ravine that runs from the village to the sea.
