8월 24, 2025, Lac d'Arpitettaz
I did this hike in early May 2024, just a few days after the ski season was over and the slopes had closed. The valley was completely deserted and it felt magical! The peaks were still covered in snow, but the first signs of spring were beckoning. On the final stretch to Lac d'Arpitetta, I was wading through snow up to my knees. Without proper gear I couldn’t get any farther than the small lake. The view on that crystal-clear spring day was absolutely fantastic! Check the picture I uploaded with all the peak names added.

Lake Arpitettaz is a small mountain lake on the road to Cabane d’Arpitettaz. If you don't want to go to the Cabin, you can also make a loop to return to Zinal via the Roc de la Vache from the Lake. However, there is a trick to getting to Lac d’Arpitettaz from Zinal. If you stay on the right bank of the river, you will have to take a difficult and steep passage called “Pas du Chasseur” where you will have to hang on to chains for part of the way. This is not ideal, especially if you have young children. Instead, stay on the left bank of the river towards the Cabane du Petit Mountet and from there follow the direction of Lac d'Arpitettaz. You will cross the river on a pretty modern bridge. This will add an extra 10 minutes to your hike but above all you will have peace of mind and be able to see the Zinal Waterfall. It's really worth the detour.

The emblematic Lac Bleu d'Arolla is an ideal place for a run. Winding alpine trails lead you through classic alpine pastures, over interesting and varied running terrain. The deep blue waters of the lake are a popular destination for tourists and hikers, offering excellent views of the valley and mountains, creating an archetypal Swiss scene.

Very impressive building in the middle of the mountains. There is a restaurant at the dam wall and a hiking hut a little above.

The Lac de Châteaupré is a mountain lake in the Walliser Val Moiry, a side valley of the Val d’Anniviers. It is located at an altitude of 2352 meters above sea level and lies in the municipality of Anniviers. The Châteaupré lake is fed by the Gougra and the glacial water of the Moiry glacier. The Gougra leaves the lake again and flows around 1.2km later into the reservoir "Lac de Moiry". On the north bank of the Lac de Châteaupré there is a large car park and even the terminus of a post bus line (“Moiry VS, glacier”). [Source: https://www.schweizersee.ch/lac_de_chateaupre/]

The Lac 2500 tour is very beautiful, surrounding the first large lake, a reservoir. Then you also come to this smaller glacial lake.

In the background you can already see the Moiry Glacier in its full size as it glides down several steep steps into the valley. A magnificent serac zone with crevices has formed above every steep step and high, multi-step side moraines can be seen on both sides. The melt river that feeds the Lac de Moiry rises from the glacier tongue. Several craggy rock peaks rise from the ice sheet of the glacier and the Grand Cornier towers over the whole area with its 3960 m. (Source: Wikinger Reisen)
