Moon Trail with Observatory INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE STATIONS AROUND THE MOON WITH OPEN-AIR OBSERVATORY The “Moon Trail” adventure trail reveals amazing things about “Science & Moon” and “Myth of the Moon” at more than 20 interactive stations around Lake Zauchensee and invites you to join in and try things out. The almost 4 km long “Moon Trail” begins in the center of the World Cup town of Zauchensee at the welcome gate through which you enter the world of the moon. Anyone vacationing in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee with children should also try out the theme trail that winds around Lake Zauchensee and through the adjacent forest: While the older siblings expand their knowledge of the moon in amazement, the little ones simply ride along in the all-terrain stroller. Walking time: approx. 2 hours The more than 20 interactive stations on the Moon Trail provide information about the mystical and scientific aspects of the Earth's satellite. Some also invite you to join in and try things out: for example, thanks to moon gymnastics or massages, you can feel the influence of the celestial body on the body. You can look up at the starry sky through the telescope of the observatory on the shore of Lake Zauchensee during the weekly stargazing, and in the garden of the moon crater you can collect certain herbs depending on the phase of the moon. The Tappenkarseehütte is located just above the lake of the same name and is an ÖAV hut. In summer, it's a popular destination, including for overnight stays. We even managed to get a spot in the camp at short notice, but it was completely full. Because it was so crowded, everything felt a bit like a mass processing operation. Unfortunately, we didn't get the famous Kaiserschmarrn in the evening either; it's only available during the day. There are few vegetarian options, and no (posted) mountaineering food.

The Mondweg takes you around the Zauchensee. In winter you can enjoy the great atmosphere in the middle of the white forest and mountain world.
