The very conceptual name is both complete and true to the program. A great opportunity to stand high up at a "three-state junction" and look down on their countries.

The route to the summit of the Dobratsch, starting point at the Rosstratte car park, can be done in several ways. The easiest, however, is to follow the "normal" route. This should also be possible for inexperienced and not particularly well-equipped people. Good footwear is a must, however, as the path is partly made of coarse gravel and can be slippery, especially when going downhill. It is around 4.5 km with an elevation difference of around 450 m. The effort is definitely worth it, the view from the summit cross is fantastic.

Pilgrimage Church of Mary at the Holy Stone The German Chapel stands at an altitude of 2159 m on the Dobratsch in the municipality of Bad Bleiberg and is dedicated to Mary at the Holy Stone. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Bad Bleiberg. The name "German Chapel" is used to distinguish it from the Windic Chapel, the second mountain church on the Dobratsch. According to legend, the construction of the church was preceded by an apparition of the Virgin Mary. Mary is said to have appeared to a Bleiberg tradesman or a shepherd in distress sitting on a stone. The builders of the first chapel, consecrated on August 15, 1693, were therefore either Bleiberg tradesmen or miners from Bleiberg-Kreuth and the farmers from the upper villages of Villach. In 1731, the original wooden chapel was replaced by a brick one, which was not consecrated until 1853. The simple, small building consists of a nave with a flat ceiling and a barrel-vaulted choir with a 5/8 end. ...

Chapel is not that special, but views in all directions are beautiful because it is the highest point. (Of course you have to be lucky with the weather 🙄) It's a tough walk to get there, so it's difficult to reach for young children and older people (but certainly possible). This view / church is not accessible by car (not even for the disabled, buggies, ...)

Two churches rise up on the summit of Villach's local mountain, the Dobratsch (2,167m), an elongated massif, which is also called "Villacher Alpe". The "German" and the "Windian Chapel". Incidentally, the two Marian chapels make the Dobratsch the highest Marian pilgrimage site in Europe!

Simply WOW🤩, you are rewarded up here with a fantastic panoramic view. Was here on the Whitsun weekend, there were still snow fields to hike across. But with decent shoes it's no problem.😉

Three national borders (Austria, Italy, Slovenia) and three large language families (Germanic, Slavic, Romance) meet here. Information boards describe the background and you have an all-round view of all three countries.

At the summit you have an incredibly beautiful panoramic view. To the south you can see the Karawanks with Triglav, the highest mountain in Slovenia. There is also a view of the Gailtal and the border triangle. Lake Wörthersee with Klagenfurt in the east simply invites you to marvel and enjoy. In good weather you can see the Hochalmspitze (3,360 m). The two churches on the summit make the Dobratsch the highest Marian pilgrimage site in Europe. Very easy for children to manage. It is not really suitable for strollers.
