Idaturm
The Idaturm is a 28 meter high observation tower on the 211 m above sea level. NN high mountain range Harrl, which belongs to the city of Bückeburg in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony. The tower is built of sandstone that was quarried in a nearby quarry. On the one hand, the tower was built by Prince Georg Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe for land surveying in the year of inflation and starvation in 1847. On the other hand, the construction was supposed to make a living for the many unemployed workers and farmers these days. The tower bears its name after the wife of Georg Wilhelm, Princess Ida. At the same time, the Wilhelmsturm was built in the Rehburg mountains in Wölpinghausen. The Idaturm is owned by the Princely Court Chamber in Bückeburg. The inside of the tower has a spiral staircase with 128 steps. At the top there is a view far into the country. The all-round view extends to the Mindener Land, to Obernkirchen, to the Weser Mountains and, in clear weather, to the Steinhuder Meer. At the foot of the tower is an excursion restaurant that has reopened since December 6, 2014. After a renovation and the installation of a new fresh water and sewage pipe, the old castle kitchen from Bückeburg took over the direction. The tower is a popular hiking destination between Bückeburg and Bad Eilsen.
