The Minneburg is an impressive castle ruin in the Neckar Valley, near Neckargerach. It sits atop a wooded hillside and offers a fantastic view over the Neckar Valley. The castle was probably built in the 12th century and reached its heyday in the 16th century, when it was remodeled in the Renaissance style. The legend surrounding the Minneburg is particularly fascinating: The name is said to originate from Minna von Horneck, who sought refuge here out of love for a knight.

When you come to Zwingenberg you can already see the beautiful castle on its rock. It is privately owned but you can hike around it. Above, a path leads up the Wolfsschlucht. This was very adventurous and absolutely recommendable.

Opposite Neckargerach, the Minneburg rises on a wooded hillside in the Neckarkatzenbach municipal forest above the Guttenbach district. It is considered the landmark of Neckargerach. It owes its current form mainly to the expansion in the first half of the 16th century. Today it is a mighty ruin and a popular destination, especially since you have a beautiful view of the Neckar valley and there are also two barbecue areas in the area, which invite you to linger for a while. According to legend, the name of the castle goes back to Minna von Horneck, a damsel at Hornberg Castle. Before her marriage to the Count of Schwarzenberg, who lived at Dilsberg Castle, she is said to have taken refuge here in a cave. She secretly loved the poor knight Edelmut von Ehrenberg and hoped for his return from a crusade. When he finally returned from the Holy Land, it was too late: Minna was dying. At the death camp he is said to have vowed to build a castle and to commemorate her great love (Middle High German: Minne) named it Minneburg. Source: https://www.neckargerach.de/de/freizeit/machen/minneburg The ascent to the main castle is still blocked. A renovation is not foreseeable.

A very well preserved castle. Sightseeing costs, but the entrance fee is well worth it

You just have to go to Gutenberg Castle and its falcons. From the castle you have a fantastic view of the Neckar valley and the Odenwald. And the kitchen in the economy is not to be despised either. There is also a lot for the children to linger there.

The Minneburg is a real highlight on this round. According to Wikipedia, the origins of the Minneburg are obscure. It was probably built by Staufer servants and its origin is linked to the Staufer Palatinate in Bad Wimpfen and other associated castles in the Neckar Valley. Anyone who is interested in the castles along the Neckar or in general will find a great piece of history here. Many hikers and families like to rest in the forecourt of the castle. Seating is available, as are tables. Otherwise, the knee-high wall remains invite you to a pleasant rest with a wonderful view of the Neckar valley.

Guttenberg Castle is particularly well-known for the German Griffin Observatory and the flight demonstrations it organizes. The castle itself is a late medieval hilltop castle between the Neckar and Mühlbach valleys. Since it has not been destroyed over the course of history and has been continuously inhabited for almost 800 years, it reflects the structural developments from the medieval castle to only use in modern times.
