At around 325 meters long and 200 meters wide, the Nonnenmattweiher pond isn't particularly large, but it's truly beautiful to look at. Here, you can swim in peace and enjoy the Black Forest in all its splendor. After the lake had probably silted up in the Middle Ages, it was subsequently dammed. According to legend, a nunnery is said to have sunk into the lake. However, the lake's name doesn't stem from this legend, but rather from the fact that fattening cows, called nuns, used to grazed the pastures surrounding the lake. Local recreation area on the southern edge of Freiburg. You can indulge yourself with culinary delights in the restaurants by the lake. Otherwise, take a walk or start hiking from there.

Very clear, beautiful lake, you can rent boats in the summer. But don't swim in the forest lake!

Very beautifully landscaped lake. Here in the small pavilion on the lake or on the benches around it you can unwind. The restaurant was only open for drinks today and was being rearranged. Normal operations resume from 6 p.m

The lake, which was created as a pond for Freiburg breweries, was also used for local recreation as early as 1880. The restaurant by the lake opened in 1883. The turbulent history of the place can be read on a plaque on the north side of the restaurant.

Beautiful ice age mountain lake
