🏰Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century. It is located at 129 m above sea level in the Elz valley🌊. With its eight residential towers up to 35 meters high, its bay windows, roofs, half-timbering and spires, it is the epitome of a knight's castle for the spontaneous observer.⚔️ It sits majestically in a side valley of the Moselle near Mayen. This imposing sight even adorned the 500 DM note for several decades.

Shortly after the death of Kaiser Wilhelm I, the idea arose to erect a memorial to the Kaiser, who had brought about the complete unification of Germany after three wars. Three years later, in 1891, Kaiser Wilhelm II, the grandson of the deceased, chose the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz as a suitable location. In order to create space for the memorial, a port of refuge was filled in, which at that time was located at the mouth of the Moselle. The Deutsches Eck in its present form was created. On August 31, 1897, the copper-engraved monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I was inaugurated in the presence of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Holidays on the island of Winningen feature a top-notch restaurant for a break or even camping on the island. Super nice, clean, and really good food and breakfast. The wine village of Winningen has everything you need, especially good wine, and the first wine festival of the year on the Moselle. It's on the first weekend in September.
