The castle ruin Waldenburg is a beautiful little castle ruin in the middle of a great forest. There are also small wooden benches so you can take a rest. There is also an information board to find out more about this ruin.

Great and very well-kept castle complex. The park behind the buildings is also worth seeing.

It is a real moated castle, Badinghagen Castle. It stands south of the city center of Meinerzhagen and thus in the transition from Sauerland to Bergisches Land. The castle could come from a Grimm fairy tale and with its high quarry stone base and the decorative black and white framework. And so it is not surprising that Badinghagen Castle is often used as a location for romantic films. The history of the former knight's seat is documented around a thousand years in the past. The property was first mentioned in a document in 1160. It was the Knights of Badinghagen who, so much we know, had owned the complex since at least 1363 and who gave it its name. The family died out, however, and Badinghagen Castle changed hands several times in the centuries that followed. Originally the complex had also included other buildings, today only the moated castle itself is preserved, which essentially got its appearance in 1902 and no longer has much to do with the historic castle. The castle can only be reached on foot and is therefore a destination for a walk in the forest. The castle is privately owned and can therefore only be viewed from the outside.
