Beautiful section through the NSG Bislicher Insel. Large meadows (flood protection area) are filled with more or less water (depending on the season and the water level of the Rhine) and thousands of different bird species.

HARD TO BELIEVE; BUT DUISBURG REALLY HAS SEVEN RHINE BRIDGES - FROM NORTH TO SOUTH THESE ARE IN DETAIL Auisburg has seven Rhine bridges In 1945 not a single Rhine bridge in Duisburg was intact. 1. Krefeld-Uerding Bridge • spans the Rhine between Krefeld Uerdingen and Duisburg Mündelheim • is a bridle bridge (fake suspension bridge) • the length is 860 meters • The structure is one of the most beautiful Rhine bridges and has been under monument protection since 1987 because of the "architectural conception of the desired harmony between nature and technology". 2. Duisburg-Hochfeld railway bridge • spans the Rhine between Duisburg Hochfeld and Duisburg Rheinhausen • the first bridge train was put into operation at the end of 1873 • There have been four bridges over time • The 1st bridge was opened for freight traffic on December 24, 1873 and passenger trains ran over this bridge from January 14, 1874. • the 2nd bridge was put into operation on October 13, 1927 • the 3rd bridge was put into operation on May 12, 1945 • the 4th bridge was released on October 1, 1949 • the longest span is 189 m 3. Bridge of Solidarity • This road bridge spans the Rhine between Duisburg Hochfeld and Duisburg Rheinhausen • Opened to traffic on July 3, 1950 • Tied arch bridge • 256 meters • 500,000 steelworkers marched across the bridge to protest the closure of the Krupp steelworks. That was on January 20, 1988. The bridge got its name at that time. The steel workers came to the bridge from over 60 German steel works. 4. Neuenkamp Rhine Bridge • Commissioning was on October 16, 1970 • was the most modern and longest steel cable bridge in the world • Cable-stayed bridge • 350 meter span and 777 meter overall length • Costs in 1970: 37 million German marks • It was designed for 30,000 cars per day • Traffic increased, 100,000 vehicles (including 11,000 trucks) • In 1977, the lane transitions were replaced for the first time • Cracks in the road were repaired once in 1996-1998 and again in 2010-2013. • Was temporarily converted to six lanes, but then reverted back in 2007 due to excessive leverage 5. Friedrich Ebert Bridge (Duisburg) • a road bridge between Duisburg Ruhrort and Duisburg Homberg • Built in 1954 • Total length of 599 meters • is a bridle bridge (fake suspension bridge), like the Krefeld-Uerdinger Bridge 6. Haus-Knipp railway bridge • Railway bridge in the north of Ruhrort between Duisburg Beeckerwerth and Duisburg Baerl • Span 767 m • Truss bridge which actually consists of 24 individual truss bridges • Commissioned in 1912 • Construction costs were around 8.5 million German marks 7. Beeckerwerth Bridge • between Duisburg Beeckerwerth and Duisburg Baerl • The total length of the bridge is 1030 m • Commissioning was in October 1990 • 134 million DM construction costs • Cable-stayed bridge
