The moated castle of Friedewald was built in the 13th century at this strategic point, because medieval military and long-distance trade routes met here. After it was destroyed in the Seven Years' War, it lost its importance. It was only partially used. Today you can visit them and climb the thick tower. During excavations in the castle courtyard in 1983, a shard was found in a layer of fire that was assigned to the 11th or 12th century. Over the centuries the owner had changed several times. During the Thirty Years' War the castle was conquered by various occupiers. During the Seven Years' War in 1762, General Stainville (French Army) destroyed the moated castle. It was never rebuilt and the outer bailey served as an official residence and courthouse.
