The Elfenstein is a mountain spur at an altitude of about 475 m above Bad Harzburg. The granite rock was first mentioned in writing in 1578 as "Elwenstein" and in the Middle Ages it was regarded as the residence of elves. The Achtermannshöhe is the fourth highest mountain in the Harz. It lies, so to speak, in the slipstream of the Brocken and of course also allows a fantastic view of its big brother. The climb up from the parking lot in Oderbrück is more of a moderate walk. To be honest, one has to say that the area around the Achtermannshöhe is very heavily infested with bark beetles and the forest here is less beautiful. However, the panoramic view is fantastic. The most beautiful thing is a visit to the Achtermannshöhe at sunrise. Then the sun comes up directly behind the Brocken.
