The imposing building at the entrance to the Stöcken municipal cemetery is the cemetery chapel. It was built in the neo-Gothic style from red brick and inaugurated on January 1, 1892. The octagonal building with two corner towers and a lawn in front forms the impressive main entrance to the cemetery. The chapel was designed by city building inspector Paul Rowald under the guidance of city building officer Georg Bokelberg. The cemetery chapel is an important example of the architecture of the Hanoverian school of architecture under Conrad Wilhelm Hase. It impresses with its symmetrical design and the use of sandstone for cornices and portals. The careful restoration from 1985 onwards helped to preserve the original character of the building.

Extraordinarily beautifully laid out cemetery, especially the pond.

The cemetery covers 55 hectares. It was opened in 1891 as the second cemetery (after Engesohde) in Hanover. There are lots of flowers and a flowering meadow with beehives. A pond and many old trees. Many celebrities lie here. Among others, the publishing family Madsack and Julius Trip.

The plaza contains various commemorative stones loosely and widely spread over it. In between there are many places to rest.

The Georgsplatz with the magnificent building ensemble, designed by the Hanoverian court architect Georg Friedrich Laves and executed by the contractor Constantin Nordmann (who also built the Nordmannsturm), and once used by King Ernst August I of Hanover as a hunting lodge, not only has an idyllic character. The simple, elegant, almost elegant design of the building really makes it an eye-catcher. You really notice the great architect here.
