The Zirmgrat is certainly the most beautiful route to the Falkenstein castle ruins - the highest castle in Germany at 1277 meters. King Ludwig II even wanted to build another fairytale castle on the site, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps and the Alpine foothills. His father Maximilian I had already passed through here on his journey on what is now the "Maximiliansweg" from Lindau to Berchtesgaden. Füssen is at the end of the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path and the Romantic Road. Füssen rightly enjoys an excellent reputation, as it lies at the foot of the Alps and on a beautiful lake (Forggensee). The old town of Füssen also offers a number of sights and the proximity to the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles have made Füssen famous beyond the borders.

Beautiful complex with unique illusion painting that used to serve as the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg. It is now used as a tax office and museum. It is definitely worth a visit!!!

The old town of Füssen is not huge now, but still worth seeing :-) If you are in the mood for something special, buy a "snowball" which is available with different fillings - it's worth it :-)
