The viewing point on P16, where you should definitely plan a break and enjoy the fascinating view of the Eichsfeld and the distant horizon. In autumn, a colorful spectacle awaits you here.

The summit of the Stein (just under the 500m altitude mark) is easily overlooked. Only a small wooden sign on a tree points to it. The mountain is located in the western part of the Eichsfeld district near the state border with Hesse and is one of the northern foothills of the Gobert.

The first panel shows a map of the Eichsfeld, the second panel contains interesting facts about the Sonnenstein and the third panel provides information about the Eichsfeldlied and its author.

The Sonnenstein viewing platform was built in 2017 and is 14 meters long.

Highest elevation sounds worse than it is. Once you are on the Kolonnenweg, the climb is quite easy.

Our hike began in Weidenbach. It led over the Vatteröder Stein, Dietzenröder Stein, Stein and Nase back to Weidenbach. A recommended tour, especially in spring, under fresh greenery. The viewpoints on the respective cliffs are particularly noteworthy.
