At the beginning of the 20th century, the current "Old Town Hall" became too small for the city's ever-growing administrative apparatus, and so in 1905 the building was moved to the "new town hall" on what is now Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz. In the years that followed until 1909, the town hall was renovated and refurbished under the direction of the city's building inspector Wilhelm Scharenberg, until the city's history museum moved into the building in 1909. A visit to the interior is definitely worthwhile, as you can see the large historic ballroom and the treasury, as well as the council chamber and the landscape room, which is decorated with paintings from the late Baroque period.
