                                "... The northernmost elevation of the Teutoburg Forest is the Huckberg between Hörstel and Bevergern. The area is called the "Wet Triangle" because the Mittelland Canal branches off from the Dortmund-Ems Canal there, crossing the Teutoburg Forest south of the Huckberg.

                                In the Huckberg, in a west-northwest-trending valley, lies a small pond without inflow or outflow, which is said to never dry out completely, even in warm summers. Locally, it is called the "Witches' Pond." Further upstream in the valley created by old quarrying, the two entrances to the Witches' Cave open into a rock face. The sandstone crevices were widened by human hands. One local resident believed that the cave had been blasted open during World War II to store ammunition for the Flak (anti-aircraft gun); another recalled that the cave had already been used as a storage facility. existed before the Second World War.

                                A special feature of the Witches' Cave are the vermiculations, worm-like clay deposits on the rock, which also occur in the Schnegel Cave and are described in more detail together with it.

                                        We hadn't imagined the cave to be so big and, above all, so accessible. It's an exciting little exploration tour where a flashlight is helpful. There's also a cool earth cache here for the cache hunters among us.
