Along the Göhl Valley route, you can cross the Geul stream at Oost Castle in the Geul Valley and continue hiking towards Valkenburg. The path follows the Geul almost into the town center. Alternatively, the bridge allows you to continue hiking along the Geul towards Schaloen Castle.

Here, on the Oosterweg trail, directly at the foot of the Schaelsberg forest and next to the Geul stream, you'll find a spring called Sankt Jans. The spring is named after the patron saint of the church in Oud-Valkenburg.

Since the old tower collapsed on March 16, 2025, it might soon be possible to view the new tower from here.

Deep in the marl hills of Valkenburg lie the famous Neolithic flint mines, one of the oldest industrial sites in the Netherlands. People dug marl here as early as 2800 BC to extract flint, a hard rock used for tools such as arrowheads, knives, and axes. The tunnels extend dozens of meters beneath the hill and offer an impressive glimpse into how our distant ancestors shaped their habitat. The mines are unique and offer insights into the daily life and technological knowledge of the first farmers and hunters in South Limburg. Over the centuries, the tunnels have sometimes been flooded, subsided, or partially collapsed, but the traces of mining are still clearly visible. Today, parts of the flint mines can be visited via guided tours or special routes where you can literally follow in the footsteps of people from 5,000 years ago.

Discover the Alpha Quarry, an old marl quarry near Valkenburg aan de Geul. This man-made quarry was worked centuries ago by block breakers who shaped the landscape and building materials of South Limburg. Although it's a quiet and relatively unknown place, the entrance and the surrounding grounds tell a story of working history and underground passages.
