🏞️ History & Geology Began use: 1938 as Nekami Groeve, later expanded and operated by various companies, most recently by Sibelco. Geological feature: The layers date back to the Cretaceous period and include limestone formations such as Meerssen, Nekum, and Gronsveld. Fossils & Rocks: The region features deposits from various geological eras, including loess, Maasgrind, and Tongrien sands. 🚴♂️ For Cyclists The road along the Groeve is part of a popular climb, 1.6 km long, with a 64 m elevation gain and an average gradient of 3.9%. The section with a view of the steep marl cliffs is particularly attractive – a real insider tip away from the well-known Bemelerberg.
