The bottom ramp (also known as a rough ramp or river bottom ramp) is a term used in hydraulic engineering. Basically, it involves overcoming a difference in height along the course of a body of water. Instead of converting the kinetic and potential energy of the headwater into heat and sound through an alternating jump, this takes place at the roughness elements of the ramp.
