On a clear day, the view from here extends not only to the Alps, but also to the Hotzenwald hills and the Swiss Jura mountains. On the other side, one can see down to Herrischried through the clearing of the Kehltannen lift.

The Hornberg Basin near Herrischried is Germany's highest reservoir and part of the Wehr pumped-storage power plant. A variety of trails lead around the basin through the extensively planted landscape, which, upon completion, was designed with around 40,000 trees and shrubs. There are also numerous other hiking options and refreshment stops nearby.

The Ödland Chapel is a true gem in the Hotzenwald Forest and boasts a rich history. At the end of the 18th century, the farmers of Bergaling built a small chapel here in gratitude after their village was spared from the rinderpest epidemic. Following a fire in 1897, the current stone pilgrimage chapel, dedicated to the Holy Cross, was built. A particularly atmospheric feature: every year on the first Sunday in September, a pilgrimage service brings life to this special place.

In 1780, pious farmers from the Hotzenwald region built the Ödland Chapel as a thank you for the fact that their cattle had been spared from the rinderpest that was rampant at the time. Today, the Ödland Chapel invites people to meditate. Hungry hikers have the opportunity to plan a longer rest with an open fire and crispy sausages at the nearby barbecue area. The Ödland Chapel is closed in winter!

8월 20, 2024, Hornbergbecken Viewpoint
The Hornberg Basin was built in the 1970s in Herrischried on the summit of the Langes Eck for the purpose of generating peak power, making it the highest dam in Germany. However, it not only serves as a pumped storage reservoir, but also delights visitors with breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley and as far as the Swiss Alps when they take a detour to the viewing points on the dam crest.

The garden and the restaurant are back in full operation with good food, homemade cakes and pies. The house has been freshly painted and four holiday apartments are modern and newly furnished. Guest rating: Fabulous. If you want to stay longer in this panoramic location - link: https://www.blackforest-homestay.de.

"There is a small chapel under old gnarled beech trees that invites hikers to stop and linger. Even in Roman times there was a lookout tower up here, as you can enjoy a wide view of the surrounding area from here. Its name comes from the fact that in earlier centuries the people of Niedergebisbach carried their dead to the cemetery in Rickenbach for burial and had to cross the "Bühl". After the Thirty Years' War, the three beech trees were planted, which are now protected. The poet Victor von Scheffel (1826 - 1886) describes this place in his notes as a "place of ghosts and a meeting place for rabble, gangs of thieves and all kinds of shady people". A private individual had a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary built there."
