St. Bartholomew's Cathedral, a prominent landmark in the city center, is a Gothic church with a tower approximately 95 meters high that has dominated the cityscape since the Middle Ages. The tower rises above the surrounding buildings and, together with the historic old town and modern skyscrapers, forms a typical panorama of the city. Visitors can climb to a viewing platform 66 meters high. St. Bartholomew's Cathedral is named after the Apostle Bartholomew, the church's patron saint. The term "Imperial Cathedral" refers to the church's historical function as the coronation church of the Holy Roman Emperors during the Middle Ages; most imperial coronations took place here between 1356 and 1792.

The Alte Oper (Old Opera House) on Opernplatz in Frankfurt am Main is a concert and event venue. It was built between 1873 and 1880 as the opera house for the municipal theaters and destroyed in an air raid in 1944. While the Frankfurt Opera received a new venue at Theaterplatz in 1951, the opera house remained a ruin for many years. Reconstruction did not begin until 1976 and was completed in 1981.
