The lake is comparatively unspectacular. Perhaps that is why it is very quiet and relaxed here.

On our tour from Merseburg to Freyburg, we sit down at the Geiseltaler Café for a rest and treat ourselves to a large ice cream.

The church is a large baroque rectangular building with an older west tower with a square floor plan that becomes octagonal at the top. The lower part of the tower dates from the 16th century, the upper part is dated 1697 according to an inscription, and the west portal was added in 1733. The nave was probably started in 1733/1734 according to plans by Johann Michael Hoppenhaupt I, who was soon replaced in construction and further planning by the Dresden architect Wagner; the respective contributions are not known. The church was restored in 1949 and 1976/1979, and the originally more elegant Italian slate dome of the tower with its high lantern was greatly reduced in height and shape after damage from shelling in the Second World War. Repair work has been underway since 1991.

The upper circular path around the lake is paved and you always have a beautiful view of the lake.
