On May 8, 1997, the then Federal President Roman Herzog was awarded the International Charlemagne Prize in Aachen as a special honor. In his acceptance speech, he said: “For a thousand years, the question of our continent’s destiny has been whether it will live in unity or in division… I already said it on May 8, 1995, commemorating the end of the Second World War, and I want to repeat it here in essence: … What unites us Europeans first and foremost is our shared European culture, including our political culture, which is a culture of freedom… It is the roof under which we all live. More than once, the wars we have waged against each other have shaken this roof… Today, we have a unique opportunity to strengthen this roof—the intellectual superstructure of Europe—and to place it on a solid foundation of political unity and economic progress… We want to live together peacefully and with mutual respect with the other regions of the world. But we also want to preserve our own convictions and ways of life. For this, we need a united Europe.” (Roman Herzog)

Funny: The tower's tilt is only visible from the west. From the east, the tower appears straight. There's a QR code on the tower gate that leads to a virtual climb and a scenic flight. VERY well done. THANK YOU

A watermill has stood on this site since the 14th century. Destroyed by wars, fires, and storms, it has been repeatedly rebuilt, and a comprehensive reconstruction was completed in 2001. Source: https://www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de/denkmal/745b8746-c696-11ea-ab68-960000611c47/wassermuhle-krosigk

The keep, presumably built in the 9th century as a defensive tower, is still preserved from the original castle complex. The keep was originally 30 meters high. In 1886, 7 meters were removed because the keep was leaning to the northwest and cracks appeared in the porphyry masonry. The causes can be traced back to the subsoil of the former moated castle. The keep currently tilts 86 cm. To increase stability, the 10-meter-deep dungeon in the keep was also filled in. Source: https://www.gemeinde-petersberg.de/de/krosigk.html

Krosigk Castle was first documented in 927 as "castrum croszok." It was originally a moated castle and forms the historic center of the town. A children's home was established in the former manor house of the manor in 1946, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016. Today, the castle courtyard and its buildings are primarily used by the municipality. Among other things, the castle houses the kindergarten, the municipal building yard, and the old distillery houses a multi-purpose hall with club rooms and apartments.
