The Hospital Church in Neustadt in Holstein dates back to a medieval foundation that originally served as a "hospital" – from the Latin hospitale = hostel, guesthouse, or pilgrim's house – and offered accommodation and care to the poor, the sick, and travelers. The name thus indicates its dual function as a religious site and social institution.

In 2004, the Neustadt city council was divided over the future of the building. Several wanted to demolish it. After the tender for a promising future use was published, Olaf Klüver submitted his concept for a brewery pub. A long-held dream. Olaf's plan worked – after a thorough renovation, the brewery is now a prestigious attraction and meeting place at the harbor.
