The Lütjensee in the Stormarn district is around 33 hectares in size and is a popular destination for day trippers who want to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind them for a while. From the riverside paths you can enjoy a wide view over the water, which glows in different colors depending on the time of day. The sunsets from this side of the lake are truly spectacular.

The Kranika moorland is located very close to the Lütjensee. It is 96 hectares in size and has been a nature reserve since 1993. Part of the area used to be covered by water, but later moors and wet meadows developed. Today, rare plants such as sundew and orchid grow here. Many animals, including frogs, grass snakes and various bird species, also call this area home. A number of beautiful hiking trails lead along the edges and information boards provide exciting insights.

Beautiful wetland not far from the protected Kranika moorland. Once a large peat mining area, the landscape is now becoming more and more peaceful. Rare amphibians and native snake species find their habitat here.

We were unlucky that the path we had chosen led us into the wet moor and we couldn't continue. You can see that clearly on our tour. But many paths lead to the same goal :)

only a small detour leads to the moor area of Kranika. There is a sensational silence here. Unless a flock of cranes or wild geese is flying over the area. A place to breathe.

The Fischerklause am Lütjensee is a top restaurant and hotel with a beautiful lakeside terrace, where you can take a break with food and drink while enjoying the great lake views. Since the highlight was positioned on the eastern shore of the lake, the lake and not the town of Lütjensee is certainly meant here. The lake is directly west of the Kranika moorland nature reserve. It is about 33 hectares in size and up to 3.2 m deep. Its circumference is about 3.4 km. A path that is easy to drive along leads along the east bank. Only the northern and southern parts are accessible from the west bank, except for a somewhat hidden path that ends in a dead end at a bank. From there you have beautiful views over the lake. Start at the Seebergen forest house. Through the beautiful forest, past many wetlands and moors. Today there were a lot of mosquitoes because of the rain. Make sure to take mosquito spray with you. We hiked for 1 hour on beautiful forest paths.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Hamburg. It places a moored valley area in a terminal moraine landscape between the Lütjensee and the federal highway 404 under protection. The forest areas bordering the valley area and agricultural areas have moved into the nature reserve.

The Kranika moorland between Lütjensee and Grönwohld provides a habitat for numerous animal and plant species that have adapted to the predominantly wet conditions there. Here, where peat was once mined, you can now find moor frogs, grass snakes and adders. If you listen carefully while walking along the hiking trails on the edge of the nature reserve, you can also hear the creaky calls of the corncrake. Information boards provide information about the formation of the moorland and its inhabitants.
