An absolute highlight that the Jura has to offer. A magnificent route!

The route between Moutier and Delémont is a beautiful route, with mainly decent asphalted surface but there are some places near the industrial areas where the asphalt is a bit rough but overall good a surface. Geological speaking it offers a lot of unusual rock formations creating nice backgrounds for photos. The route and following the River Birse which flows all the way to Basel.

Balsthal is a great starting point leading to 4 nice low level passes (Passwang, Schelten, Hauenstein and Binzberg via Gänsbrunnen). The village itself does offer several restaurants from inexpensive bistros to 3 star restaurants as well as several fountains to fill up your water bottles.

The Catholic church was rebuilt in 1828 and renovated between 1946 and 1968 (neoclassical style). Noteworthy is an important and harmonious ensemble of stained glass windows by the artists Jean Olin (choir and nave) and Léo Steck (in the transept).
