It’s funny to see all the little gardens along the canals.

The most beautiful part of IJlst lies along the Eegracht and Galamagracht canals. Along these long canals, you'll find beautiful facades and stately houses from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The beautiful, authentic atmosphere that IJlst exudes is largely due to its many historic buildings.

Heempark is located on the outskirts of Heeg. It is a magnificent 12-hectare area where nature is given space. It is a wonderful place to hike and enjoy nature.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Restaurant De Watersport in Heeg. This restaurant is small but excellent. It's located right on a small canal, and the lovely terrace is a great place to sit. The food was delicious and of superb quality. The 18th-century spider mill near Nijhuizum, also known as the Monnikenburenmolen (Monks' Mill), is notable for its unique thatched lower tower. Until 1935, it was powered by wind, after which it was diesel-powered. Thanks to restoration, the mill has been preserved and designated as a national monument and a reserve pumping station. Volunteer millers keep it running; it can often be visited on Saturdays.
