At the bridge, look not only at the fisherman's house but also at the water under the bridge. The Cong is known for its salmon run and with a bit of luck you can see a salmon "in one piece" in its natural state and not just in the frozen section as a fillet. But you can almost always find brown trout there. Access to Asford Castle along the river path was only possible up to the meadow in front of the hotel (as of June 2023). There was now a gatehouse with security guards. Then you can't go any further! The path along the river is worth every meter.

Lough Talt sits in the Ox mountains and forms part of the Lough Hoe Bog Special Area of conservation, an area of montane bogland and oligotrophic lakes. On the abbey grounds close to Cong Abbey is a delightful stone bridge and next to it is a charming 15th/16th century monks fishing house built over the River Cong. In the floor of this small ruin is a trapdoor where the monks would have been able to fish in relative comfort.

Good tip about the bridge, access is still possible, but we didn't use it after all. View from the bridge is very nice.

Sheeffry Pass is a widely unknown pass with stunning panoramic views of Tawnyard Lough and the impressive Devilsmother hill range behind.

The medieval Ashford Castle was built in 1228 and was later converted to a 5-star hotel. It has had a number of famous guests including King George V, Queen Mary, John Lennon, Oscar Wilde, Ronald Reagan, Brad Pitt and many more. The castle is also famous due to its former owner being Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness, from the brewery family who bought the castle in 1852. Although there is a fee to enter Ashford Castle via the main bridge, access if free of charge via the footbridge at the "Monk's Fishing House" behind the abbey.

With fantastic views over Westport Bay, Croagh Patrick and the lush green countryside whats not to like about this awesome track. Take care on the descent as you can pick up some serious speed.

These waterfalls sit in the heart of Connemara towards the Delphi Pass. Its a fantastically beautiful and wild place with plenty of benches to stop and take a break. Access to the falls from the road is on a footpath, so jump off the bikes before making your way over there to take a closer look.
