Bridge closed again On the website of the province of South Holland We are carrying out maintenance on the Kandelaar Bridge from Monday, June 16, to Monday, September 1, 2025. The Spui is remarkable as a waterway because the direction of the river's flow has been reversed. This is a result of the Delta Works (a large-scale project at the end of the 20th century to control water management in the southwest of the Netherlands): to counteract the salinization of the Nieuwe Waterweg, the water from the Haringvliet (formerly a sea arm) no longer flows directly to the sea, but flows through the Spui to the Oude Maas,
