When the sun is low or the morning mist still hangs over the trees, the old waterworks in the Waterloopbos transform into an enchanting spectacle. The stagnant water in the basins and channels reflects the concrete structures, bridges, and overgrown walls, allowing reality and reflection to merge. This creates almost picturesque images that give the forest's technological history a poetic charge. The magical reflection recalls how nature and human ingenuity merge here, making a walk along the waterworks a unique experience full of atmosphere and imagination.

Beautiful route with a lot of steering, it is useful to start at the Voorsterbos (at the roundabout in Kraggenburg) there it starts a bit long and flat, ideal to warm up the muscles.

Around the Old Port you will discover monumental buildings and an enormous church. In the center there are stately houses built by the nobility from the 15th century onwards. Nowadays there are recreational yachts in the harbour, which used to be fishing boats. For centuries, the port opened directly into the Zuiderzee, but after the construction of the Afsluitdijk, the salty sea changed into the fresh IJsselmeer. Just as drastic was the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder directly on the other side of the harbour.
