The Obelisk of Lanthöjden, located on the northern shore of Lake Roxen near Linköping, is a quiet yet symbolic landmark tied to the history of the Göta Canal. Erected in 1795, long before the canal itself was constructed, it was meant to mark the exact midpoint of the planned waterway. The project’s visionary, Count Baltzar von Platen, commissioned the monument as a statement of intent and ambition, celebrating Sweden’s bold plan to connect east and west through an inland passage. Today, surrounded by forest and overlooking the lake, the obelisk stands as both a historical marker and a hidden gem, reminding visitors of the ingenuity and determination that shaped one of the country’s greatest engineering feats.

Shortly before the canal flows into the lake, there are two sculptures by Bianca Maria Barmen: "Pojken" (2009).

Here the entire lock operation is still done by hand, with muscle power.

This sculpture appears to be part of a series, but we didn't find any more on our hike.

Very nice, quiet nature campsite with private access to the water and small boat rental. Enjoy nature!
