Great Hike in Glacier National Park

Bowman Lake is located in the corner of Glacier National Park and is accessible via a rugged 6-mile unpaved road or the Bowman Lake Trail, which overlaps the Pacific Northwest Trail. The lake is approximately 7 miles in length and 1 mile in width, making it the third-largest lake in the park. The Bowman Lake Campground on the shores has 48 campsites and is excellent for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, with motorized boats limited to 10 horsepower or less.

The lake trail is beautiful and extremely secluded. There is a campsite halfway along the lake which makes a great spot to spend the night before hiking onwards or back to town. To get here you will have to either ford the Middle Fork Flathead River — which can be quite dangerous and is best approached in the late summer — or hike in via the South Fork Boundary Trail.

Fed by the Flathead River, Flathead Lake is home to Trout, Whitefish and Pikeminnow. There are several islands on this lake but Wild Horse Island is the largest.

Fathead Lake State Park in Montana offers pristine lakeside landscapes for all kinds of outdoor fun. This park is famous for having the largest freshwater lake in the western U.S. and a unique salmon run, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.

Snyder Lake lies in a basin surrounded by 8565-foot Mt. Brown towards the north, and Edwards Mountain towards the south. Both the lake and creek are named after George Snyder, the man who built a framed, two-story hotel in 1895 at the present day site of the Lake McDonald Lodge.
