"Bucket chain dredgers are also used in dredging, i.e. in the extraction of useful minerals under water or the construction of infrastructure on/in the water. These differ essentially according to the location (land/sea-based, suitable for the high seas) and the intended use (e.g When the equipment is land-based, it is sometimes called a scraper or scraper rig, although scrapers are often constructed differently and are not, strictly speaking, the same as bucket dredgers. Sea-supported bucket chain dredgers are mainly used for the following construction projects: + Deepening or expansion of existing ship berths or dock pits, + New construction of ship berths (use in "heavy" or very cohesive soil), + Extensive maintenance dredging. + Another focus of application is the expansion or deepening of waterways (fairway adjustment). + In mining, they are usually found in gravel pits or when extracting soap deposits. During maintenance dredging, the bottom of the water in the affected dredging field is brought back to the target depth (which was created in the past). Depending on their origin, whereabouts, type of soil or intended use, the dredged material is either loaded into sluice barges, collapsible barges or lighters (including barges or pushed barges) and then transported. Then the dredged material + returned to the body of water at a suitable point and at a suitable time (dumping of the dredged material - in tidal areas, e.g. during a time window when the water is running out and only in the period between the beginning of November and the end of March), + sucked out of the sluice chutes using a barge suction device, pumped through pipelines, flushed into a storage tank and then processed and installed in layers in landfills. In the case of oil-contaminated dredged material, the barges are towed to a special unloading point. There the dredged material is unloaded with a grab excavator and loaded onto specially sealed trucks. The dredged material is disposed of in designated landfills or recycling plants." https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucket-chain-bagger https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baggerschiff
