Since the tunnel on the Grimsel Pass road is only accessible by bike downhill, you'll have to take the old pass road. However, it's not a must, as the path, part of which is cobblestone, is much more beautiful and spectacular anyway.

History in every building Gletsch was one of the cradles of tourism in the Alps. The village was reached on foot, by mule, by carriage, and later by train and automobile. The first inn was built here in 1830. 150 years ago, the grand hotels Glacier du Rhône and Belvédère followed on the pass roads. Hardly any other place in Goms offers so much to see in such a small area. During the summer months, you can learn about the region at the Gletsch InfoPoint, operated by the IG Region Gletsch. Niklaus von Flüe Chapel, Gletsch / Obergoms VS The church was built by Josef Seiler in 1907/08 according to his own plans, commissioned by the Anglican Church. The neo-Gothic church stands next to a small rocky hill east of the Hotel Glacier du Rhone. According to a note in the Seiler family archives, the four statues come from a house in Raron and were acquired by Julius Salzgeber in 1935. Other sources indicate that the statues formerly stood in the vestibule of St. Catherine's Chapel in Wiler near Geschinen. The view is great and the descent to Gletsch is no less so. It is wise to enjoy the view while standing still and to concentrate on the road during the descent.
